Judge ends Ipswich’s dreadful FA Cup run

Ipswich ended their miserable FA Cup run, as Alan Judge’s last-gasp effort secured them a dramatic 1-0 first-round replay win at Lincoln.

The Tractor Boys had not won a game in the competition for nearly 10 years – a run of 15 matches – but Judge was left all on his own in the City box as the tie approached extra-time, and he jubilantly fired past Josh Vickers.

Three years ago, as a non-league side, the Imps pulled off a memorable upset against Town at Sincil Bank and they started the brighter, but Town’s Emyr Hughes had the game’s first effort, firing off target after 10 minutes.

Imps striker John Akinde planted a shot wide at the other end, before the lively Bruno Andrade had an effort deflected behind.

Andrade’s evening came to an early end as he was carried off on a stretcher after picking up a serious-looking injury.

Will Keane nearly capitalised on some sloppy City defending in added-time, but his drive was comfortably tipped over by Vickers.

Akinde flashed an effort wide early in the second half and then the big striker was then denied by Ipswich keeper Tomas Holy.

Vickers got down low to collect a Hughes 25-yard effort, before Jake Hesketh’s shot had Holy sprawling to his left to save.

Ipswich enjoyed a spell of sustained pressure, without making it tell, and sub Tyler Walker almost scored within a minute of coming on for Lincoln late on, but Holy rescued the visitors again.

Holy once more saved the visitors in added-time, keeping out Hesketh’s powerful effort, before Judge struck to the delight of the 607 visiting fans.
