Boston manager Elliott dedicates FA Cup victory to fans

Boston manager Craig Elliott dedicated his side’s 4-1 win over Carshalton in the FA Cup to the club’s fans.

Andi Thanoj scored twice while Luke Shiels netted as United reached the second round for the first time since 2005.

Christie Pattison helped Athletic back into it before Thanoj and Jake Wright scored in added time.

“The fans travel in good numbers and they’ve not had a good FA Cup run for a number of years so this is amazing for them,” said Elliot.

“It would be nice to get a big team at home. We dominated the first half and deserved to be 2-0 up. It got a bit nervy when they got the goal, but we got clinical at the right time to kill it off.”

Carshalton were bidding for a second appearance in the second round, not progressing beyond this stage since the 1982-83 season.

“We’re disappointed, but proud at the same time. We gave it a good go,” said player-manager Peter Adeniyi.

“First half we had a shot cleared off the line, and it’s a game of inches. We were in the game, but their late goals are always likely to happen when we’re chasing it.

“It then became about giving it a good go, having no regrets in the FA Cup, and I think we did that.”
