Smith to the rescue with late equaliser for Cambridge

Sam Smith scored at the death to earn Cambridge an FA Cup replay in a 1-1 draw with Exeter.
Smith’s effort in the third minute of injury time levelled the scores, a goal which the U’s scarcely deserved, as he fired home when Harrison Dunk’s cross was flicked on to him.
Alex Fisher’s goal 11 minutes before half-time had looked set to send the visitors through. Soon after being superbly denied by defender Greg Taylor, he fired past Callum Burton after robbing Elliott Ward.
After the break, Burton was forced to tip a Randell Williams Exeter cross away for a corner, and Aaron Martin nodded a Matt Jay corner wide. Jay then blasted an effort from distance which was comfortably held by Burton.
On the hour Burton was called upon to save Jay’s low shot after Williams’ marauding run down the right.
Having threatened little, Cambridge substitute Dunk came close to equalising after 65 minutes with an overhead kick that went only narrowly off target following Smith’s knock-down before Smith’s late leveller.
