Ethan Ebanks-Landell effort enough as Shrewsbury see off Peterborough

Ethan Ebanks-Landell’s goal just before half-time sealed a narrow 1-0 League One victory for Shrewsbury over Peterborough.
Marcus Maddison had a second-half penalty saved by Shrewsbury goalkeeper Joe Murphy as third-placed Posh were beaten at the Montgomery Waters Meadow.
Maddison drove a long-range shot wide as Peterborough looked for an early breakthrough.
Dave Edwards fired wide of the near post for the hosts before Jason Cummings, set up by Donald Love, saw his effort well saved by goalkeeper Christy Pym.
Shrewsbury broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time. Omar Beckles headed Shaun Whalley’s free-kick against the post and defender Ebanks-Landell reacted quickest to convert the rebound.
Posh were awarded a penalty seven minutes into the second half for a challenge on Ivan Toney, but experienced goalkeeper Murphy came to the home side’s rescue by stopping Maddison’s spot-kick.
Mo Eisa and Toney were then off target for Peterborough, while – at the other end – Shrewsbury midfielder Josh Laurent hit a shot into the side netting.
The result moved Shrewsbury up to 11th in the table, two points outside the play-off places.
