Ayr remain three points behind Scottish Championship leaders Dundee United following a 4-1 hammering of bottom-placed Partick Thistle at Somerset Park.
The hosts went ahead in the 10th minute when Craig Moore finished off a fine move.
Ayr doubled their advantage eight minutes later, with Michael Moffat heading in after Thistle failed to deal with a cross, before two goals in the first seven minutes of the second half sealed the points.
Moore fired past Scott Fox for his third goal in two matches then Alan Forrest advanced forward and curled into the top corner.
Partick pulled a goal back in the 79th minute when Joe Cardle, having earlier drilled an effort against a post, headed in Ryan Williamson’s cross.
