Liam O’Neil could be in contention for Cambridge for their Sky Bet League Two clash with Crawley on Saturday following a hamstring problem.
The midfielder sustained the injury on October 12, but came off the bench during his side’s 2-0 defeat at Northampton last weekend.
In a further boost for manager Colin Calderwood, Dan Jones and George Maris are expected to return to the squad.
Jack Roles remains a doubt for the game, while Samir Carruthers is still two or three weeks away from a return.
Ollie Palmer is likely to be pushing for a start in Crawley’s line-up.
The striker has come off the bench in the last two matches – against Swindon and Colchester – after recovering from a stress fracture.
Manager Gabriele Cioffi could decide to rotate his squad, with his side in the middle of a congested fixture list of four games in two weeks.
Midfielder George Francomb and defender Joe McNerney have an outside chance of returning from their respective injuries.
