Michael Duckworth’s first goal for AFC Halifax secured a 1-0 victory over struggling Sutton.
The midfielder struck in the 53th minute to end Town’s three-match winless streak and move them up to second in the National League table.
Kenny Davis was off target for Sutton twice in the first half while Liam McAlinden fired over for Halifax.
Visiting goalkeeper Sam Johnson then pushed Rob Milsom’s free-kick to safety before Halifax struck.
Duckworth was on hand to convert Josh MacDonald’s cross and keep Sutton in the relegation zone, three points from safety.
Johnson ensured Halifax left with all three points by denying Omar Bugiel, who then hit the crossbar late on.
