Ayr maintain momentum with come-from-behind victory at Morton

Second-placed Ayr kept the pressure on Scottish Championship leaders Dundee United as they edged a 3-2 comeback victory over Morton at Cappielow Park to end a run of three successive defeats.
The Honest Men enjoyed the majority of first-half possession but were unable to convert any of that dominance into chances as Morton came close through Cameron Salkeld just before the break.
The hosts took the lead two minutes into the second half as on-loan St Mirren defender Jack Baird opened the scoring from close range.
But Ayr struck back three minutes later as Craig Moore slotted Jordan Houston’s assist high over goalkeeper Sam Ramsbottom to level matters before Luke McCowan put the visitors in front with a long-range strike after 55 minutes for his fifth league goal this season.
Bob McHugh netted his third goal in two games as he picked out the bottom corner with a 61st-minute equaliser for Morton, but Ayr substitute Craig McGuffie struck the winner just seven minutes after coming off the bench, 12 minutes from time.
