Fernandinho banned as Manchester City host Southampton

Manchester City will be without suspended midfielder Fernandinho for the Carabao Cup fourth-round clash at home against Southampton on Tuesday.

The Brazil international, who has been filling in at centre-back for the holders, was sent off after being booked twice in the 3-0 Premier League win over Aston Villa on Saturday.

City, who are likely to field some fringe players, will also be missing midfielder Rodri (hamstring), left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko (knee), centre-back Aymeric Laporte (knee) and winger Leroy Sane (knee).

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is likely to shuffle his pack significantly after the record 9-0 Premier League home defeat against Leicester on Friday.

Left-back Ryan Bertrand is banned after being sent off against the Foxes, but the changes are unlikely to be restricted to just one.

The Saints will definitely be without injured duo Cedric Soares (calf) and Moussa Djenepo (hip).

Manchester City provisional squad: Ederson, Bravo, Walker, Cancelo, Otamendi, Stones, Garcia, Angelino, Mendy, Gundogan, De Bruyne, D Silva, B Silva, Foden, Mahrez, Aguero, Jesus.

Southampton provisional squad: Gunn, Valery, Bednarek, Yoshida, Vestergaard, Romeu, Ward-Prowse, Hojbjerg, Redmond, Ings, McCarthy, Danso, Stephens, Armstrong, Boufal, Long, Obafemi, Adams.
