Regan Charles-Cook scored his first goal of the season and helped Gillingham to their first away win of the campaign with a 1-0 victory over Accrington.
Stanley were ruing missed chances as they had the ball in the back of the net three times – all ruled out – and hit the post three times with keeper Jack Bonham also making a string of superb saves..
Stanley’s Colby Bishop hit the upright in the sixth minute and Offrande Zanzala skimmed the outside of the post with the follow-up. Bonham then kept out a Bishop header on 27 minutes.
Stanley had already had the ball in the back of the net twice but the referee had blown his whistle before they thought they had scored on 30 minutes with Bishop’s ball helped over the line by Zanzala – but he was ruled offside.
Stanley came close again but Bonham saved Zanzala’s shot, it bounced out to Bishop and he could only find the post.
Gillingham went down the other end and Tom O’Connor played the ball to Charles-Cook on the edge of the area and he curled the ball home in the 59th minute.
Inspired Bonham denied Bishop and Jordan Clark to secure the win.
