Sunderland winger Aiden McGeady is out of Tuesday night’s Sky Bet League One clash with Tranmere through suspension.
The Republic of Ireland international was booked for the fifth time this season – his fourth in as many appearances – in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Wycombe and will serve a one-match ban as a result.
Manager Phil Parkinson will also be without striker Charlie Wyke, who has undergone scans after damaging an ankle at Adams Park and he is likely to be sidelined for several weeks.
Fellow forward Duncan Watmore made his first league start since the opening day of the season at Wycombe on his return from a thigh problem and lasted 62 minutes.
Tranmere boss Micky Mellon still has a lengthy casualty list to contend with ahead of the trip.
Midfielder Ollie Banks is facing up to three months on the sidelines after undergoing surgery.
He is among a lengthy list of absentees which also includes defenders Calum Woods, Evan Gumbs and Mark Ellis, midfielder Jacob Maddox and striker Ishmael Miller.
Midfielder David Perkins returned from a four-game absence in Friday night’s 1-1 draw with Southend, while striker Morgan Ferrier, who has not made a senior appearance since the end of August, is also close to contention.
