Liam Boyce set for return to Burton line-up

Liam Boyce could return to Burton’s starting line-up for Tuesday’s Sky Bet League One home clash against AFC Wimbledon.

The Northern Ireland striker was dropped to the bench, coming on in the second half, for the 4-1 loss at Fleetwood on Saturday after sustaining a knock in training on Friday.

Boss Nigel Clough said after the game: “He got a real bang on his ribs in training and couldn’t complete the session. He has also been travelling all over Europe with Northern Ireland, he played 70 minutes earlier this week. He will be in contention to start on Tuesday night.”

It remains to be seen if there is any involvement for Stephen Quinn, who has been sidelined by a knee issue.

The contest at the Pirelli Stadium will be Wimbledon’s first game since the departure of manager Wally Downes.

The club parted company with Downes on Sunday, two days on from him being banned from all football activity for 28 days and fined by the Football Association after admitting breaking betting rules.

Glyn Hodges continues to be in caretaker charge of the Dons, who have no fresh injury concerns.

Captain Will Nightingale (hip) is being assessed but thought unlikely to be involved, and it looks as if the game comes too soon for a comeback for Michael Folivi (abdominal injury), as well as Rod McDonald (knee), Luke O’Neill (calf) and Adam Roscrow (thigh).
