Arsenal are lining up a shock move for Scunthorpe youngster Joey Dawson

ARSENAL are keen to snap up Scunthorpe’s teenage midfielder Joey Dawson in a surprise deal.

The talented 16-year-old became the youngest first-team player in Scunthorpe’s history in August.

He is the son of former Iron left-back Andy and a nephew of ex-Tottenham defender Michael Dawson.

Dawson has made just one appearance this season, coming off the bench in the 1-0 Carabao Cup defeat at the hands of Derby.

Meanwhile, the Gunners have been dealt a blow after transfer target Lukas Klostermann moved closer to signing a new contract at RB Leipzig.

The Gunners were linked with the right-back, 23, after allowing Stephan Lichtsteiner to leave the Emirates on a free transfer.

However, budget constraints saw Unai Emery target other areas of his squad instead.

But with Hector Bellerin yet to make a Premier League appearance this season, it was said that Arsenal were preparing to move for Klostermann in January.

But with Atletico Madrid also said to be interested, RB Leipzig are set to take action by rewarding Germany international with an improved deal.

Elsewhere, Paul Merson has slammed Unai Emery for his treatment of Mesut Ozil - calling the German their "best player".
