Inter Milan are targeting Manchester United ace Nemanja Matic ahead of the January transfer window.

Inter Milan are stepping up their pursuit for out-of-favour Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic ahead of the January transfer window.

Matic has only made five appearances so far this season having fallen down the pecking order to the likes of Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay.

The midfielder has been linked with a United exit for months as his contract runs out at the end of the season, although there is an option to increase for one more year.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Inter boss Antonio Conte is keen to reunite with the Serbia midfielder after working together for a year at Chelsea.

The Serie A giants are also said to be preparing a three-year contract worth €5million (£4.4m) per season.

However, the move could only go forward if United accepted a low fee to release the Serbian in January.

If Matic joins Inter then he would become the third Red Devils player to move to the San Siro.

The Nerazzurri signed Romelu Lukaku in the summer for a whopping £74m and was then joined by Alexis Sanchez on a season-long loan.

Matic signed with United in 2017 from Chelsea and has amassed 92 appearances for the Old Trafford outfit so far.

However, the 31-year-old has found himself out of favour ever since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment as permanent manager in March.

The ex-Benfica ace was almost ever-present at Chelsea before moving to Manchester against Conte’s wishes.

The Italian manager told Sky Sports after Matic’s transfer to United two years ago: “Matic knows very well what I think about him.

“He's a really good player, a strong player and very important for our team, but sometimes you must accept the crazy transfer market and you must accept different decisions.

“He's a great loss for us.”
