Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under pressure following Manchester United’s shocking start to the season.

Manchester United must stick by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, just like they did with Sir Alex Ferguson during his early days in charge, says former Red Devils striker Mark Robins.

United have had their worst start to a season for 30 years under Solskjaer, as they sit 12th in the Premier League table after eight matches.

There have been calls from some fans to sack the Norwegian but Robins believes that would be a premature decision.

The now Coventry boss reckons Solskjaer is worth persevering with as he tries to bring back the values he learned under Ferguson at Manchester United.

“I think what he’s trying to do is reinstall the values that he felt as a player and that were there under Sir Alex and I think that he needs to do that,” Robins told Sky Sports.

“If you think back to when Sir Alex took over, it was six years before that started to take effect.

“I don’t think you get that time these days but I think the board will be patient.

“I think as long as they can see things moving forward in the right way, they’ll be patient.

“But clearly you need to get results alongside that, Ole knows that.

“The noises coming out of there, you look at what’s being said, and they seem happy, the players seem happy, it seems a happier camp, but things can turn quickly and you need to get those results to maintain it.

“But I hope he gets that time and he gets the backing in the transfer market because it’s going to take a lot of time get them back to where they were.

“The other thing is there’s a danger of trying to chase the teams that are above you and there are a few teams that are above them, but certainly the Liverpools and Manchester Citys.

“You’ve got to get on with what you’re doing and plan for your club. Hopefully he will get the time to achieve his goals.”
