Republic of Ireland international Paul McShane could make his debut for Rochdale against Accrington Stanley.
The 33-year-old has signed a short-term contract until January after leaving Reading in the summer.
Fellow defenders Rhys Norrington-Davies and Luke Matheson are away on international duty, while Jim McNulty, Eoghan O’Connell and Matt Done are injury doubts.
Stephen Dooley is ruled out with an ankle injury suffered in the Leasing.com Trophy game against Bolton in midweek.
Accrington manager John Coleman will check on the fitness of two players before naming his squad.
Midfielder Sean McConville has missed the last two games through injury and the winger remains a doubt.
Forward Colby Bishop is also a doubt due to an ankle problem but is hopeful of featuring.
Coleman has plenty of options at his disposal after making nine changes from the draw with Oxford last weekend for the midweek Leasing.com Trophy win over Oldham.
