Stefano Pioli is to be named new coach of AC Milan.
Marco Giampaolo was axed on Tuesday after just seven games and 111 days in charge, a new club record.
Pioli returns to San Siro after he was sacked by Inter in May 2017.
There have already been seven tacticians to have represented both sides of the Milanese divide.
Pioli is a respected figure in Italian football after spells in Serie A with Parma, Chievo, Bologna, Lazio, Inter and Fiorentina.
He led Lazio to the Champions League playoffs in 2015 and was praised for keeping Fiorentina together after the tragic death of captain Davide Astori last year.
