Inverness end Ayr’s winning run

Ayr saw their five-match winning run in the Ladbrokes Championship ended with a 2-0 home loss at the hands of Inverness.

The Honest Men’s only league defeat to date this season had come against Dundee on August 10 but that record looked under threat when James Vincent took advantage of a poor clearance from Shaun Rooney’s cross to fire Inverness in front after 31 minutes.

Rooney then added his name to the scoresheet with a fine goal in the 64th minute, beginning his run near the halfway line before finding his way into the box unchallenged and finishing past Ross Doohan.

The win sees third-placed Inverness close the gap on Ayr directly above them to just two points.
