Krystian Pearce’s stoppage-time strike saw 10-man Mansfield pick up a much-needed 1-0 win at Grimsby.
Hayden White saw red for a bad challenge in the second half, but John Dempster’s struggling side took all three points deep in stoppage time to relieve some of the pressure at the foot of the table.
Grimsby looked to have taken the lead early in the first half when James Hanson headed home from Jordan Cook’s chip, but the striker was denied by the offside flag.
Hanson should have done better later in the first half when played through one-on-one with Conrad Logan but with the Mansfield goalkeeper quick to charge out, the striker chipped his effort wide.
The visitors were reduced to 10 men on the hour mark, with White receiving a straight red card for an over-the-top foul on Jake Hessenthaler.
But in the sixth minute of stoppage time, Pearce popped up from a free-kick to poke the ball home and earn Mansfield a much-needed victory to relieve some pressure on their manager.
