Colchester could have Ryan Jackson back from a hamstring injury for their Sky Bet League Two clash with Stevenage on Saturday.
The 29-year-old was withdrawn against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup on September 24 and missed the 1-1 draw at Macclesfield on Saturday.
Harry Pell has moved closer to a return for Colchester despite not featuring since the opening day of the season, and was told this week to increase his training after removing his protective boot last week.
In a further boost for manager John McGreal, winger Callum Harriott is also nearing a return.
Stevenage defender Luther James-Wildin is a doubt after being forced off after just half-an-hour of last weekend’s draw against Cambridge.
The right-back was replaced by Arthur Iontton, who could get a recall after being dropped to the bench a week ago.
Midfielders Joel Byrom and Tom Soares are both closing in on returns having missed four and five matches respectively with injury.
Defender Ben Nugent looks set to keep his place after making his first appearance of the season against Cambridge.
