Real Madrid plan January signings

Despite leading LaLiga Santander, Real Madrid are struggling in the Champions League, and the club plan to try and correct these problems by dipping into the January transfer market, with Christian Eriksen of interest.

Zinedine Zidane wanted to rebuild the midfield in the summer, with Paul Pogba his first choice, however a deal was made impossible by Manchester United's demands.

Despite Zidane believing that his team are capable of putting in performances like against Sevilla on a regular basis, there remains doubts over the players in his squad.

The debate over the suitability of some players will continue until they begin to show consistency, and this situation has left those in power at Valdebebas no option but to look for January solutions.

However, the starting point for any mid-season business must be the departure of at least two players from the current squad, with Mariano Diaz and Brahim Diaz both likely to be encouraged to leave.

Two such departures would create room for a midfield addition, yet whilst Pogba continues to be Zidane's dream, the likelihood is that Eriksen will be the most attainable player in January.

He is experienced at 27 years old and will not renew his contract with Tottenham Hotspur, meaning a deal is in everyone's interest.

Donny van de Beek is also likely to be a target with the Dutch playmaker having been close to joining during the summer, whilst there is an eye towards the future with regards to the club's significant interest in Eduardo Camavinga.

In addition to new signings, Zidane is expected to give continuity to a group of younger players looking to find their place in the team, mainly Vinicius Junior, Eder Militao, Luka Jovic and Rodrygo.

However, at this precise moment it is clear that the French coach prefers to give priority to those who brought both himself and the club so much success in recent seasons.
