Plymouth midfielder George Cooper could feature in the Sky Bet League Two clash with Scunthorpe, despite suffering a broken nose and cheekbone injury last weekend.
Cooper was set to see a specialist on Thursday for further assessment on the facial problems, with Pilgrims boss Ryan Lowe suggesting the 22-year-old may be able to play wearing a protective mask.
Danny Mayor is fit after being substituted against Mansfield due to a tight groin, while fellow midfielder Jose Baxter (calf) and on-loan Rangers striker Zak Rudden (knee) have returned to training and could be involved.
Argyle strikers Byron Moore and Dom Telford (both hamstring) remain out.
Scunthorpe manager Paul Hurst will be without Matthew Lund and is also sweating on the fitness of a number of unnamed players.
Midfielder Lund starts a three-match ban following his red card against Bradford, while Hurst revealed some of his squad suffered from illness this week and will be monitored ahead of the long trip to Home Park.
Regan Slater and Levi Sutton are in contention to replace Lund, while forward Kevin Van Veen is expected to be available after missing the Bantams game with a rib injury.
Lee Novak is pushing for a start having returned from an ankle injury as a substitute last weekend, with fellow striker Jamie Proctor (knee) expected to travel following two matches on the sidelines.
