Yeovil’s win at Bromley overshadowed by injury to goalkeeper Cousins

Yeovil climbed to second in the Vanarama National League but their 3-1 win over Bromley was overshadowed by a sickening injury to Ravens goalkeeper Mark Cousins.

A nasty clash in the second minute between Glovers forward Rhys Murphy and Cousins saw the game at Huish Park halted for 18 minutes while the latter was treated by paramedics before being carried off on a spinal board.

With no replacement keeper on the bench, defender Chris Bush was forced to play in goal.

But Michael Cheek gave Bromley the lead in the 22nd minute when he scored from a free-kick that was headed into his path.

Jimmy Smith levelled for Yeovil with his second goal in as many games shortly before half-time.

The Glovers had two more great chances to score before the break when Matt Worthington and Charlie Lee both went close.

Defender Bush made a great save to deny Gold Omotayo in the 66th minute.

However, a mix-up in the Bromley defence in the 72nd minute saw Yeovil go ahead when the ball was deflected to Marc-Anthony Okoye who inexplicably passed the ball into his own net.

Lee scored Yeovil’s third in the 77th minute, looping a header over Bush.
