Forrest double inspires Ayr to Arbroath victory

Alan Forrest scored twice in eight first-half minutes as Ayr kept pace with Ladbrokes Championship leaders Dundee United in a 3-0 win over Arbroath.

The 23-year-old attacker opened the scoring in the 12th minute before capitalising on a mix-up at the back to make it 2-0 to the Honest Men.

Ayr’s impressive form continued as Stephen Kelly scored their third goal before the half-hour mark.

Dundee United remained on top of the standings on goal difference after their 6-0 thrashing of Morton.
