Queen of the South hold Dundee to draw

Dundee missed the chance to climb into the top four of the Scottish Championship as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Queen of the South.

Queens, looking for only their second win of the season, took a sixth-minute lead through Jack Hamilton but Jordan McGhee quickly levelled for Dundee as the spoils were shared in Dumfries.

The hosts went ahead when Stephen Dobbie, who scored a hat-trick as Queens beat Dundee 3-0 in the last meeting between the two in January, hit the post from 25 yards out and Hamilton netted the rebound.

However, the home side’s lead lasted just five minutes before Dundee, searching for their first away win in the league this season, were back on level terms at Palmerston Park.

Queens keeper Robbie McCrorie did superbly to deny Andrew Nelson in the 10th minute but he could do little 60 seconds later as McGhee, Dundee’s captain for the night, headed home Graham Dorrans’ cross.

That proved to be the end of the scoring, although both sides had chances to add to their tallies, with man of the match McCrorie called on again to save from Joshua McPake and Dorrans while Dobbie and Fayssal El-Bakhtaoui went close at the other end.
