Hartlepool fans display anti-racism signs during Chesterfield draw

Chesterfield’s wait for a first away win in the National League this season continues after a 1-1 draw at Hartlepool, whose fans made a strong statement about their views on racism at the end of a rough few days.

Pools and Dover have been asked by the Football Association for their observations after allegations of racial abuse were made during Saturday’s clash between the two.

Hartlepool have been working with police in an attempt to identify those involved in an incident.

A 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a racially-aggravated public order offence, while a 60-year-old man has also been reported for summons after allegedly making his way on to the pitch during the game which seems certain to have repercussions for the north-east club.

In the stands on Tuesday, though, United fans held signs saying ‘Love Pools, Hate Racism’, and a demonstrable attempt was made to show they were against any form of discrimination.

On the field, the Spireites, who had lost their last three on the road, fell behind in the ninth minute when Peter Kioso poked home from close range following a corner.

John Sheridan’s side levelled eight minutes before the break when Tom Denton nodded in his first goal of the season.

Joe Rowley fired just wide for the visitors after the break while Denton headed a late chance straight at Pools keeper Ben Killip.

Chesterfield remain second-bottom while Hartlepool have now gone four games without a win.
