Panayiotou scores late winner as Aldershot end home victory drought

Harry Panayiotou scored a stoppage-time winner as Aldershot beat fellow National League strugglers Wrexham 1-0 to finally gave their supporters a home victory to celebrate.
The Shots had won only one of their previous 18 league games at the EBB Stadium – that victory coming back in April – and it looked set to be another frustrating day for the home side.
However, with time almost up, Saint Kitts and Nevis striker Panayiotou found a way past Christian Dibble to earn Aldershot the points.
Wrexham, without an away league win in five months, came closest to making the breakthrough in the first half with Akil Wright’s header being superbly saved by Mitchell Walker.
It was Aldershot’s turn to be denied by brilliant goalkeeping in the 50th minute when Dibble somehow managed to tip Alex Fletcher’s header onto the crossbar.
Both teams pushed for a winner, Luke Young, James Jennings and Bobby Grant going close for Wrexham and Aaron Eyoma for the Shots, but a draw looked the likeliest outcome until Panayiotou’s last-gasp intervention.
