Premier League giants Manchester United have this afternoon confirmed that goalkeeper David De Gea has put pen-to-paper on a new contract.
De Gea's rise to stardom
28-year-old shot-stopper De Gea made the move to Old Trafford from Atletico Madrid in 2011.
The Rojiblancos youth product initially struggled to settle, though, with many having questioned whether or not De Gea would be capable of fulfilling his unquestionable potential under the bright lights of one of world football's biggest clubs.
However, the years since have seen the Madrid native do just that, and more.
De Gea has gone on to establish himself as one of the finest goalkeepers on the planet, whilst cementing his status as Manchester United's most important player.
De Gea's struggles
But, with United having, particularly over recent years, largely failed to capitalize on their shot-stopper's brilliance by securing any form of meaningful silverware, De Gea has inevitably been linked with a possible departure from Old Trafford.

The alarming dip in form suffered by the former Atletico man over the final months of last season, meanwhile, subsequently saw the speculation surrounding his future move up a notch this summer, with French giants PSG long-touted as a potential destination.

New deal agreed?
As such, with less than 12 months remaining on his current deal at Old Trafford, suggestions had begun to mount that United may be forced into parting ways with De Gea before the close of the European transfer window, to ensure that they managed to secure some form of return for the Spaniard.
Such claims, however, were definitively shut down back in July.
This came amid widespread claims that the 40-time capped international was on the verge of committing his future to the Red Devils, by putting pen-to-paper on a new 6-year deal:

And, on the back of two further nerve-wracking months for United fans around the globe, confirmation of De Gea's new contract has finally arrived.
In a post across the club's social media platforms, the Manchester giants have revealed that their star shot-stopper has penned a deal until 2023.
There is also an option for a further year:

Speaking on the back of committing his future to United, De Gea explained:
'It has been a privilege to spend eight years at this great club. And the opportunity to continue my career at Manchester United is a genuine honour. Since I arrived here, I could never have imagined I would play over 350 games for this club. Now my future is fixed, all I want is to help this team achieve what I believe we can and win trophies again, together.'
