Mark Robins pleased to take point from Burton and go top

Coventry boss Mark Robins was pleased to come away with a hard-earned point from a goalless draw with Burton, a result that sees the Sky Blues take over at the top of League One.

The game was end to end for large parts with defences dominating although both sides hit the woodwork with Zain Westbrooke lashing a long-range effort against the post midway through the first half and Everton loanee Nathan Broadhead smacking a free-kick against the same upright late on.

“It was always going to be a difficult game,” said Robins. “I said yesterday that this was going to be our most difficult test this year and that is no disrespect to anybody we have played but I know the way that they play here and the way they do things here and it proved that way.

“The second half was more like a basketball game in fairness, it was end to end,” observed the Sky Blues boss.

“There was some good efforts and some good football played from both teams. There were a few chances but not many. There was no quarter asked or given. I thought it was a really good advert for the League and for the two clubs.

“The atmosphere was excellent and I thought our support was phenomenal and it is really helping. We have played a decent brand of football and we weren’t at our best today but you have got to credit Burton for that.”

Brewers boss Nigel Clough was pleased despite not seeing his side grab what would have been just a second home league win of the season.

“It was a brilliant game,” said a smiling Clough, “People say you have got to have goals in games but I thought that was as good a 0-0 as you will see especially in League One. Some of the quality of the play from both sides today was excellent.”

Clough admitted that from his viewpoint he thought Broadhead’s free-kick was in for what would have been the winner.

He added: “Half an inch the other way and it is in and even the rebound or going in off the keeper we just didn’t quite get the break with it but they hit the post as well.

“It was quite even in terms of chances. I thought we had the better of possession certainly. It was a nearly one today We put one across the face of goal and Liam Boyce nearly gets on the end of it and Lucas nearly got on the end of a cross. Not quite for us today but very pleased with the performance today against a team who have just gone top of the league.”
