Brendan Wiredu will hope to keep his place in the Colchester side against Walsall on Saturday.
The teenage midfielder joined the Us on loan from Charlton this week and made his full debut in the EFL Trophy win at Gillingham.
Luke Gambin and Brandon Comley are both away on international duty with Malta and Montserrat respectively while Luke Norris (ankle) is a doubt.
On-loan forward Freddie Hinds could be involved for the first time, with Harry Pell, Tom Lapslie and Cohen Bramall all out injured.
Rory Gaffney could make his full debut for Walsall at the JobServe Community Stadium.
The forward joined the Saddlers on a season-long loan from Salford last week and made his first appearance for the club as a second-half substitute in the EFL Trophy defeat at Coventry.
Walsall boss Darrell Clarke is yet to name an unchanged team this season and has admitted that he does not know what his best starting line up is.
Danny Guthrie and Rory Holden are working their way back from injury.
