Strugglers Chorley suffer at set-piece

Set-piece dominance helped Boreham Wood to a 3-1 win at fellow National League strugglers Chorley.
After an uneventful opening half-hour, the visitors took the lead when Sorba Thomas’ corner was expertly guided into the bottom corner by the head of Tyrone Marsh. A decisive punch from goalkeeper Billy Crellin prevented a repeat moments later and Keiran Murtagh was denied by the offside flag when the ball came back in.
Chorley were unable to defend Thomas’ high, swinging deliveries, though, and David Stephens headed a second goal in the 38th minute, with Kabongo Tshimanga attempting to get the final touch in the six-yard box.
The game was as good as over two minutes after half-time when Tshimanga’s low cross was turned into his own net by Matt Challoner, though the full-back then went close at the right end when his fierce cross-shot was tipped behind by David Gregory.
Chris Holroyd pulled one back from a penalty, having been fouled by Mark Ricketts, but that was as good as it got for the hosts.
