Richie Wellens criticises Swindon performance despite Morecambe win

Swindon manager Richie Wellens was critical of his side despite seeing them return to winning ways with a 3-1 victory at home to Morecambe.
A brace from Eoin Doyle and a Jerry Yates goal earned the Robins their first victory in four league matches.
But hard-to-please Wellens said: “It doesn’t really feel like a win because I don’t think we were great.
“When we got it right and executed what we wanted to do, we looked good and created chances.
“We scored goals at good times, but were far too sloppy today. It was the worst we’ve played by a long stretch.
“We won’t brush things under the carpet because there were certain things there that weren’t good enough, but we take the positive in the result.
“You can’t have it all. We’ve performed in the first five games overall. Today we were a bit off it.”
All of the goals came in the first half as Doyle continued the stunning start to his Swindon career following a loan move from Bradford.
The home side took the lead with only two minutes played as the in-form Doyle reacted quickest when Keshi Anderson’s shot was blocked to prod home through the legs of Barry Roche.
Morecambe were back on level terms in 13th minute when Lewis Alessanda rifled into the far corner after Danny Rose was caught in possession.
But Swindon regained the lead four minutes later courtesy of Yates, who slotted home an Anderson throughball.
Doyle got his second and Swindon’s third in the 21st minute when he nodded home after a superb pin-point cross by Lloyd Isgrove.
Morecambe could have got back into the contest in the 69th minute after Swindon goalkeeper Luke McCormick misjudged a cross.
But Steven Old could somehow only guide the ball wide with his body from close range.
Morecambe manager Jim Bentley lamented his side’s defending.
“I can stand here and be critical about certain aspects of our play, obviously the goals we conceded,” Bentley said.
“It’s been a difficult week after conceding three (last week against Exeter) and we conceded three again today, we’ve got to learn from it.
“There were some good signs today, but we have to make sure we get a bit tighter and don’t concede.
“We have upped our game offensively, we are creating chances and scoring goals but it’s come at a cost, because we have conceded 10 in a week.
“There are some signs there and I do not want to be doom and gloom.”
