Peterborough made it three league wins in a row with a 3-0 home win against nine-man Sunderland.
Black Cats fan Marcus Maddison scored a stunning 30-yard free-kick and a sweeping finish either side of Josh Knight’s first goal for the club before the visitors had Luke O’Nien and Charlie Wyke sent off.
Maddison, who scored a 35-yard stunner at MK Dons in his last match, fizzed a free-kick into the net after 36 minutes to liven up a drab first half.
Knight then drilled in a low finish past Jon McLaughlin after 52 minutes from the right-hand side of the area to cap a sweeping counter-attack, before Maddison started and finished another excellent break 12 minutes later.
A deflected left-wing cross from George Boyd came to the forward inside the area and he found the opposite corner to spark jubilant scenes.
Sunderland, who were on a five match winning run in all competitions, saw O’Nien sent off for an altercation with Posh’s Ivan Toney on 71 minutes before Wyke’s late challenge on Dan Butler six minutes later earned him a second yellow.
