Tisdale admits MK Dons were way off the pace in Peterborough hammering

MK Dons boss Paul Tisdale described his side’s 4-0 home hammering as one of the worst afternoon’s he has had at the club as Peterborough ran riot at Stadium MK.

A brace from Mo Eisa added to the early strikes of Marcus Maddison and Ivan Toney and saw Posh record their second successive league win.

And Tisdale revealed he has not experienced a worse afternoon as MK Dons boss after seeing his side limply wave the white flag.

“We were not ourselves today against a team who have played very well, so that is what happens,” said Tisdale.

“I haven’t had many worse afternoons here than that one, but it has happened and it is a lesson for us in all sorts of respects in terms of League One and where we are as a team.

“Before we look at the details of how we played, the question we need to ask is how we imagine ourselves as the team we need to be to be at our best – we were way off it today.

“I am certainly not going to dig the details of this one because, we have to make sure that we have a very objective view of our progress. We were way off it.

“When a game goes like that and there is so much wrong, everyone is going to come up with a comment to explain why this has happened – but the answer is somewhere else, there is a point somewhere else where you have to start again.”

Ferguson’s side took a deserved lead on 21 minutes when Maddison’s unstoppable left-footed shot flew into Lee Nicholls’ top-left corner via the crossbar.

Posh doubled their lead when Maddison turned provider for Toney on 28 minutes, who nodded home his fourth goal of the season.

Eisa made it 3-0 with his third goal in as many games five minutes before the break following a neat one-two with George Boyd.

And Eisa added a fourth for Posh and his second of the afternoon to round off a comfortable victory.

Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson said: “It is one of those days as a manager that you do not get often, when you can just stand on the touchline and really enjoy the performance of your team – and that is what it was today.

“We earned the right to do that after the first-half performance – the quality of the goals was very good and at half-time I asked them to not lose the second-half and be professional.

“All in all, it was a very good day for us. I thought we were a little bit careless before we scored, but we were in complete control from the first minute.

“It was a complete performance, but I do feel there is more to come – but it was a very good day.

“I was pleased with another clean sheet too, because we know we have goals in us, but we need clean sheets – and that is now two on the bounce for us.”
