Port Vale registered their first league win of the season with an impressive 2-1 victory over Forest Green at Vale Park.
Richie Bennett’s early opener was cancelled out immediately by Joseph Mills but David Amoo’s 34th-minute strike proved the difference as Mark Cooper’s side suffered their first defeat of the campaign.
The hosts took the lead just four minutes in when a cross from James Gibbons was headed home from close range by Bennett.
Their lead lasted barely two minutes. Gibbons gifted the ball straight to Mills, who could not believe his good fortune has he drove into the box and side-footed past Scott Brown for the equaliser.
An entertaining first half eventually swung in Vale’s favour when Cristian Montano beat his man and crossed to former Liverpool prospect Amoo, who made no mistake, firing into the roof of the net.
The Valiants went close to extending their lead on several occasions, with Gibbons hitting the bar before half-time and Joe Wollacott keeping out a Nathan Smith header from point-blank range, but they held out for a deserved victory.
