Bishop goal earns 10-man Accrington a point at Wimbledon

Colby Bishop scored his first goal in league football to earn 10-man Accrington Stanley a battling 1-1 Sky Bet League One draw at AFC Wimbledon.

Defender Luke O’Neill put the Dons ahead after 42 minutes when his curling cross was deflected into his own net by Stanley centre-half Ross Sykes.

The visitors’ task got tougher just past the hour mark when defender Zaine Francis-Angol was sent off for a second yellow card – penalised for a late challenge having earlier been booked for bringing down Michael Folivi.

However, three minutes later summer signing Bishop latched onto Courtney Baker-Richardson’s cross to get the goal which ultimately earned Stanley their first point of the season.

Bishop had earlier been denied an equaliser when Dons loanee goalkeeper Nathan Trott, on his league debut, produced a brilliant fingertip save from his looping header.

Wimbledon midfielder Callum Reilly had fired straight at Stanley goalkeeper Dimitar Evtimov from close range just 35 seconds into the match and he also miscued another effort following an incisive Dons break midway through the first half.

O’Neill curled a 25-yard free kick narrowly wide, while defender Paul Kalambayi’s added-time header almost won it for Wally Downes’ side, who also remain winless in League One this season.
