Jake Cassidy inspires Maidenhead to victory in season opener at Stockport

Jake Cassidy’s second-half header handed Maidenhead a 1-0 victory at Stockport in their season opener.
Cassidy met fellow debutant Josh Smile’s cross from deep to send a towering header beyond the reach of Ben Hinchliffe in the 79th minute.
Stockport, making their return to the National League, were left frustrated after twice seeing efforts scrambled off the line.
Jake Kirby rounded the goalkeeper 10 minutes into the second half but Joe Ellul was in position to block his shot and, shortly after Cassidy’s goal, debutant Taye Ashby-Hammond made a fine save to keep out Paul Turnbull’s header after it deflected off Ellul.
