MANCHESTER UNITED are readying a move for Tottenham star Christian Eriksen as an alternative to Bruno Fernandes.

The Red Devils are set to complete the signing of Harry Maguire in the coming days after agreeing an £80m deal with Leicester.

Manchester United and Leicester had been locked in talks all summer and a breakthrough was reached on Friday.

And according to The Independent, United are already eyeing their next signing after Maguire.

They say the Red Devils are contemplating a move for Tottenham’s Eriksen.

The Denmark international, who is out of contract next summer, has revealed he’s keen to leave the club for a new challenge.

The Independent say United are eyeing Eriksen as an alternative to Sporting Lisbon’s Fernandes.

United and Tottenham are chasing the Portugal international, however, it was claimed this week that the north London side lead the race for Fernandes.

Tottenham have held talks with Sporting over the midfielder, who has told the Portuguese club he’s keen to go this summer.

A lot has been made of the interest in Fernandes, with Sky Sports transfer expert Kaveh Solhekol claiming he isn’t a priority target for United.

He said on the Transfer Show: “A lot of Manchester United supporters have said ‘where does this leave us, are we not in the race for Bruno Fernandes anymore?’

“He was a player that United fans were getting excited about.

“The information we have on Manchester United remains the same.

“He’s a player that they’ve watched and are interested in but isn’t a priority target.

“That doesn’t mean that there’s no chance of signing him this summer but he wasn’t at the top of the list of players they were looking at signing.

“It looks like Tottenham are in the driving seat for Bruno Fernandes.

“It depends whether they come up with a bid that will entice Sporting to sell.”
