MANCHESTER CITY are poised to make Rodri their club record signing in a £62.6m deal.
The Spanish international has been released from his contract at Atletico Madrid.
Rodri will travel to Manchester to undergo a medical in the next 72 hours, before signing a long-term deal worth £200,000-a-week.
Etihad chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak sanctioned the signing after agreeing to meet the release clause in Rodri's contract.
Atletico bosses confirmed the player's lawyers and Manchester City bosses had lodged the payment with La Liga chiefs.
Rodri, who terminated a deal with Atletico running until June 2023, will overtake Riyad Mahrez as the Premier League champion's most expensive signing.
Mahrez cost Pep Guardiola's men £60m when he joined them from Leicester last summer.
Rodri joined Atletico in 2018 from Villarreal and made 34 league appearances last season to help them finish second in La Liga.
He made his international debut in a friendly against Germany last year and has gone on to make six appearances overall.
Guardiola made Rodri one of his main summer targets after identifying him as the long-term replacement for ageing Brazilian international Fernandinho.
Asked about signing the player last month, Guardiola told reporters: “I have no idea. We will see. He’s a great player.”
