Ivarsdottir, 30, shot to fame over a decade ago when named Miss Iceland before going on to claim the Miss World Sports title.

Like her new hubbie, the model showed off her athleticism in the decathlon event that included running, canoeing and a football shooting challenge.

Together with Everton ace Sigurdsson, 29, the couple have become known as Iceland's answer to Posh 'n Becks.

Both have enjoyed success abroad, the footballer most notably with Swansea and Everton after coming through Reading's academy.

Plenty of famous friends celebrated their nuptials after the ceremony at Villa Balbiano in Italy's northern lakes.

Evertonian boxer Tony Bellow commented on Instagram: "Congrats mate! Ya's look great together."

A variety of players, past and present from Sigurdsson's career, wished them well.

"Congrats bro," posted Wilfried Bony, all in caps.

Jermaine Jenas exclaimed: "Looking a million lad!"

Hal Robson-Kanu sent a series of heart emojis in his comment while Leroy Fer added: "Well done Gilfao... Congratz broski."

Sigurdsson himself captioned the photo: "Married my best friend on Saturday."

Before the weekend, the attacking midfielder posted a snap of the couple's King Charles Spaniel, Koby, on a plane with the message: "Can't get married without this one."
