Official: Liverpool confirm Moreno & Sturridge exits

Premier League giants Liverpool have this evening confirmed that both Daniel Sturridge and Alberto Moreno will depart the club upon the expiration of their respective contracts this summer.

Liverpool champions of Europe

Jurgen Klopp's men took to the pitch for the final time this season on Saturday night, on the grandest stage of them all.

The Reds faced off against English rivals Tottenham in the Champions League's finale in Madrid.

After missing out on domestic glory in the most agonizing of circumstances already this season, though, Liverpool finally went on to clinch the club's first piece of silverware under Jurgen Klopp.

A disappointing affair at the Wanda Metropolitano eventually saw goals from Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi either side of half-time guide the Merseysiders to a 2-0 win, and their 6th European Cup/Champions League title.

Liverpool part with pair

The Anfield giants, though, are not resting on their laurels, with the club seemingly already planning for next season.

As per the aforementioned announcement this evening, two of Liverpool's first-team players are set to be released at the beginning of next month, upon the expiration of their respective contracts.

The individuals in question are Danny Sturridge and Alberto Moreno, both of whom largely-struggled for game-time this season:

'Thank you'

Speaking to Liverpool's official website a short time ago, Reds' boss Jurgen Klopp thanked Sturridge and Moreno for their contributions to the club, before wishing both players the best in their future endeavours:

'The most important words to say to these two remarkable players is 'thank you'.'

'They were here when I arrived as manager and during that period they – as much as anyone – helped to establish us as a team that would be heading in the right direction. Without them we wouldn't be the team and club we are in this moment.'

'I wish both players nothing but success and joy wherever their journey takes them next. Whoever has them next will be so lucky to have these outstanding personalities in their ranks.'

'We will miss them of course, but we can say farewell with the best words possible: Guys, you leave as European Champions.'

Moreno has been linked with moves to Portugal and Spain over recent months, with Benfica and Barcelona both touted as potential destinations for the soon-to-be free agent left-back.

Sturridge, meanwhile, is also likely to have no shortage of suitors, with a reunion with former boss Brendan Rodgers at Leicester City having been mooted.
