LIVERPOOL and Manchester United are chasing Lille star Nicolas Pepe this summer - but it appears they’ve missed out on his signature... to lowly BRIGHTON!

Pepe is on the wanted list of a host of top European sides after a sensational season in France.

The Ivory Coast international netted 22 goals for Lille this term, putting him firmly on the radar of Liverpool, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Paris St-Germain.

But online pranksters have a very different idea over where Pepe will end up this summer.

The 24-year-old star is wanted at Brighton by former team-mate Yves Bissouma.

Bissouma swapped Lille for Brighton last summer and he’s publicly tried to get Pepe to join him this week.

The Seagulls midfielder tagged a Twitter account which appears to belong to Pepe pleading with him to move to the Amex Stadium.

The account, which claims to be Pepe’s but is not officially verified by Twitter, then responded with a picture of the Lille man mocked up wearing a Brighton shirt.

And the joke has now gone a step further on Wikipedia, with Pepe’s current club listed as Brighton.

In reality, Pepe could well be off to the Premier League - albeit at a club battling at the top of the table, not the bottom.

Journalist Duncan Castles revealed earlier this week on the Transfer Window Podcast that Liverpool and United are keen on the player.

"Nicolas Pepe, I think this is a really interesting one for Liverpool," he said.

"I think he would be a fantastic fit to their squad. He is, as people in football say, a vertical player and Liverpool are a very vertical team who like to get to the opposition box as quickly as possible, pace across the ground is fundamental to the way they play.

"They have been, I’m told, in contact with Pepe’s agent to discuss a deal, discuss his interest in coming there, what it would cost to bring him there.

"Lille are aware of this and are waiting for a bid.

"As we told you on the Transfer Window a couple of weeks ago, Manchester United have enquired direct with Lille about what the transfer fee would be."
