Morton end on high despite Johansson departure

Morton ended their Ladbrokes Championship campaign with a third successive victory following a 1-0 win against Dundee United – despite the departure of manager Jonatan Johansson just under 90 minutes before kick-off.
Morton, who finished the season in fifth place, announced on their official website that the former Charlton striker and assistant manager Peter Houston had left the club at 1.39pm.
A statement read: “Greenock Morton Football Club can confirm that Jonatan Johansson and Peter Houston have departed the club with immediate effect.
“Chris Millar and Jim McAlister will take charge of the team today for our game against Dundee United at Cappielow Park.”
Pavol Safranko had two chances to put United ahead, heading straight at Robby McCrorie before a fine diving header from Gregor Buchanan denied the Slovakian’s goalbound effort.
However, despite the upheaval prior to the match, the hosts found themselves 1-0 up through Michael Tidser’s superb free-kick in the 19th minute.
Osman Sow missed a header from two yards and also hit the crossbar with another effort for the Tangerines, but Tidser’s excellent set-piece was enough to give stand-in management duo of Millar and McAlister victory in their first game in charge.
