Jurgen Klopp Sends Special Message To PFA 'POTY' Virgil van Dijk And It's Brilliant

"A very, very small price from Southampton."

Jurgen Klopp has brilliantly reacted to Virgil van Dijk scooping the PFA Players' Player of the Year award.

Van Dijk beat Eden Hazard, Sadio Mane, Bernardo Silva, Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling to be named the best player in the Premier League.

And after winning the coveted individual prize, Klopp issued a special message to the Liverpool defender who cost the club ï¿¡75 million in 2018.

"Hello and welcome from Melwood to all of you sat around hopefully slightly better dressed than I am," he joked.

"I'm really proud it's the second time in a row I can speak about a wonderful player who won the award for Player of the Season: Virgil van Dijk.

"Who would have thought that when he started back in Holland? I think not everybody saw immediately what kind of player hides in this giant body.

"But now the whole world is aware of that and I'm really happy I can be a little bit around that development.

"I would love to think it's because of me! But obviously it's not, he was already the player he is now when we bought him for a very very small price from Southampton.

"It all worked out. From the first moment I was so excited about the opportunity to work together and now you are the man - at least for this season!"

Van Dijk, whose helped Liverpool to 17 clean sheets this season, is honoured to be crowned 'POTY'.

"It's pretty difficult to put into words," he said.

"I think it's the highest honour you can get as a player to get voted player of the year by the players you play against every week. It's special. I'm very proud and honoured to receive it."

The colossal Dutchman succeeds his teammate Mohamed Salah who won the prestigious award in 2017/18, and he's also the first defender to take the award since Chelsea's John Terry in 2004/05.

Will Van Dijk get his hands on the Premier League trophy, too? Watch this space.
