Real Madrid on course to set their worst record in history

With three games to go before the end of the season, Real Madrid are trailing LaLiga Santander champions Barcelona by 18 points and should the deficit stays as it is they will set the worst record in their history.
Los Blancos have to face Villarreal and Real Betis and also visit Real Socieded before the end of the campaign.
The largest ever gap between the two great rivals at the end of a campaign was 17 points, in the 1995/96 and 2017/18 seasons.
Back in 1984/85, Los Blancos also ended the campaign 17 points behind the eventual champions in a season in which they were defeated 19 times across all competitions; another unwanted record.
The largest ever gap between Madrid and the league leaders was recorded back in 1995/96, when Los Blancos were 21 points from the top, 33 games into the season.
