Paul Doswell called time on his long reign as Sutton manager after a 2-2 draw with Maidstone.
Blair Turgott’s late second penalty salvaged a point for the National League’s bottom club. S
Shortly afterwards Sutton announced Doswell, who has been away from the club since taking a break in March for personal reasons, had handed in his resignation after an 11-year tenure at the club.
The game had got off to a good start for the hosts when, in the 10th minute, a lapse in the Stones defence allowed Dylan Kearney through on goal to lob goalkeeper Dion-Curtis Henry from close range.
But already-relegated Maidstone rallied and equalised after 53 minutes through Turgott’s spot-kick, which was awarded after Craig Eastmond blocked Rob Swaine’s goalward header with his arm and was sent off.
The 10 men of Sutton regained their lead on 76 minutes through Brett Williams’ first-time finish, but were pegged back by another Turgott penalty in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
