Top-three bid ended as Wrexham suffer at Halifax

Wrexham’s hopes of a top-three finish in the National League were dashed by a late Devante Rodney goal in a 2-1 defeat at Halifax.
In the first half, there were opportunities at both ends before Scott Quigley’s 28th-minute strike opened the scoring for the visitors against his former club.
The chances continued to flow and five minutes before the break Chris Holroyd was in the right place to tap home Wrexham’s equaliser from a corner.
The Reds had been pushing for a winning goal until Rodney worked his way into the box to fire in a late winner for the Shaymen in the second minute of stoppage time.
Defeat for Wrexham ended a run of three straight wins and means they will face a more arduous play-off route.
