TOTTENHAM manager Mauricio Pochettino has reflected on the ‘unbelievable’ victory over Manchester City in the Champions League.

Spurs went through on away goals as the tie finished 4-4 on aggregate.

Fernando Llorente netted the crucial effort late on with VAR ruling the goal should stand.

It meant Manchester City won 4-3 on the night but exited the competition to their Premier League rivals.

And Pochettino said the match was the reason why people loved football.

He said: “It was unbelievable - the way it finished. I am so happy, so proud.

“My players are heroes to be here. I am so happy for them, so happy for the fans.

“In a moment many things happened in your head, the disappointment was massive but they changed the decision. That is why we love football.

“Today we showed great character and great personality it was an unbelievable game.”

The game was frantic from the start with five goals in 21 minutes.

Raheem Sterling gave Manchester City the perfect start before Heung-min Son netted twice to make it 2-1 to Tottenham.

But in the 11th minute it was 2-2 as Bernardo Silva bundled home.

Sterling scored again 10 minutes later to put City on the brink of a turn around.

Sergio Aguero netted next and for the first time the Premier League champions were ahead on aggregate.

Christian Eriksen admitted his relief afterwards as he thought he’d given the ball away for the crucial goal which would have seen City go through.

He exclaimed: “I must be one of the luckiest guys on the planet tonight. I thought it was all over but It was a fun game.

“It was a rollercoaster, we gave them a lot but also got a lot it was a weird game.

“After today we take a deep breathe, it will be a fairytale to play them and fun to be back in the Arena again.”

And Son went on to say he had never experienced a match like it in his career.

“I have never seen something like this, It was tough and crazy but we are very proud of our team-mates.

“It was madness. Sometimes you are annoyed with VAR but today it is thank you.

“We fought together for 90 minutes. We showed unbelievable character and fight.”

Tottenham will now face Ajax in the semi-finals with either Barcelona or Liverpool awaiting in the final.
