Morecambe and Grimsby play out 1-1 draw

Morecambe and Grimsby shared the spoils in a drab 1-1 draw in League Two.
Both sides showed plenty of effort and decent football but the defences were very much on top, with a real lack of quality in the final third of the field.
Morecambe looked set to take all three points when Aaron Collins gave them the lead with a controversial penalty in the 80th minute before Charles Vernam levelled two minutes from time to give Grimsby a much-needed point.
Collins was given the chance to open the scoring after he had been brought down by Grimsby keeper James McKeown after a long ball over the top caught the Mariners’ defence out.
Collins sent the keeper the wrong way to set his side on course for a fourth successive home win.
But Michael Jolley’s side hit back as they pushed bodies forward.
They worked an opening down the right and Harry Davis delivered a superb low cross into the area which was met by the onrushing Vernam, who slotted past Barry Roche from six yards out.
