Neale Marmon hails Yeovil’s fighting spirit

Yeovil caretaker manager Neale Marmon felt his side fully deserved the late goal which secured a crucial 1-1 draw at Swindon.

Adel Gafaiti’s last-gasp header rescued a point for the Glovers, who sit above the League Two relegation zone on goal difference.

Marmon said: “We absolutely got the reward for keeping on going.

“After the last two weeks, they really worked very well and made it harder for Swindon. The boys really put their heart into it.

“Every game is very, very tough for us because we’ve got a very young squad.

“Of course it is important to end our bad run, after that sort of run they have had, they have still got the petrol in the tank and the legs to do it.

“I think we will take off now, the fans will get behind us and it will all be positive this week. I think we can get a result on Saturday.”

Swindon dominated the first 15 minutes without really troubling Yeovil goalkeeper Nathan Baxter.

Theo Robinson should have broken the deadlock from close range but could only spoon a shot that dribbled into the goalkeeper’s arms and Danny Rose also had a shot blocked by a defender.

The hosts took the lead on the stroke of half-time as Keshi Anderson headed home after Luke Woolfenden’s strike came back off the crossbar.

Yeovil had a goal ruled out for offside in the second half and striker Alex Fisher’s shot on the turn was well saved by goalkeeper Luke McCormick with 10 minutes remaining.

Gafaiti broke Swindon hearts by guiding a deflected free-kick into the far corner at the death, leaving manager Richie Wellens disappointed.

He said: “When teams score so late against you, you have let two points slip away.

“I thought first half we were very good, but you have to come in with a bigger lead.

“The amount of really good chances we have and we scuff them, and with half an hour to go they have nothing to lose and put a lot of balls in the box.

“We passed it back too much, too safe. I thought we had seen it through, the only way they were going to score was through a set-piece and we have given a silly free-kick away.

“I was disappointed with the lack of control we had in the second half. The crowd got a little bit nervy and I think that got to the players.

“We are always susceptible to the late goal and unfortunately we have conceded one. Today is a massive blow.”
